Mobile Phones - In Your Car, On A Bus - On A Plane?

The ability for users to talk and text whilst in the air is the latest technological invention to be released in the EU. Each individual will need to install their own apparatus to incorporate the new system but it is expected that many airlines have got plans to introduce it in the pipeline.

This is great news for those users who just can’t bear to be without their mobile phones, especially for businessmen/women who need to be on the phone whilst flying to that all important meeting. The passengers will be linked to a mobile network that will be connected to the ground via satellite and at the same time, will stop phones connecting to networks on the ground. This helps minimise transmission levels to make it safe to use phones onboard.

This new system is in response to demand from users and companies that their mobile phone deals should include the ability to communicate in the air, as many people spend a considerable amount of their time on a plane. In the past, the problems were relating to licensing agreements and safety procedures but it seems like these problems may be a thing of the past.

The only foreseeable problem is the noise levels that will be generated from so many people talking on the phone. This will be especially visible during the first few months because people are likely to take advantage of the service simply because they can. It is also unknown what the costs of the service will be to the customers, will monthly customers have it included in their bill and will pay as you go mobile phones users have to pay more.

This new system is set to be released and many people will be looking forward to it and it will be interesting to see the feedback and hear people’s thoughts. In-flight testing has already taken place, most notably in France and Australia and is set to be unleashed on us sometime this year.

Now mobile phones never need to be out of your hand with in-flight texting and talking. It is likely that networks will include this in the mobile phone deals for their customers whether they are using contract or pay as you go mobile phones.
